Indeed. I’m currently reading Max Blumenthal’s book The Management of Savagery, and I recall him mentioning how bin Laden intended to draw the U.S. into a permanent war in the Middle East so they could not only kill more Americans, but also bleed the American Empire dry (similar to what they did to the Soviet Union in the 1980s). Unfortunately, bin Laden’s plan was an overwhelming success.
